Tiptap roadmap

The Markdown extension lets you parse Markdown into Tiptap's JSON format and serialize editor content back to Markdown without losing structure or formatting. It works client-side or server-side, supports CommonMark out of the box, and lets you define custom syntax for your own nodes and marks.

The Pages extension renders content within defined page boundaries with margins, headers, footers, and page breaks, while leaving your underlying schema untouched. Standard Tiptap extensions flow naturally across page boundaries, and custom extensions can define their own breaking behavior. Combined with DOCX import and export, your users can preview how their content will appear when printed or shared as a Word document.

Build AI agents that can read, understand, and edit documents in place. The AI Toolkit gives your AI full document awareness, including selection state, cursor position, and schema structure, so it can make precise edits rather than replacing entire blocks. It works with any LLM provider and natively understands custom nodes and marks. Changes can be surfaced as suggestions for human review, streamed in real-time, or applied directly.

The Decorations API lets you add inline, node, and widget decorations directly from your extensions, with automatic position tracking and React/Vue component support. No ProseMirror plugin code required.

Reduce AI token costs by up to 90% without sacrificing accuracy. Shorthand is a compression format purpose-built for Tiptap documents that encodes structure efficiently, allowing AI to read and edit documents at a fraction of the token cost. It works seamlessly with both the AI Toolkit and Server AI Toolkit.

Process documents programmatically on the server without requiring a browser-based editor instance. The Server AI Toolkit enables agents to read and edit dormant Tiptap JSON files or Cloud documents while respecting your schema. This unlocks background processing, batch operations, and document automation workflows. All AI edits are queued as suggestions with full audit trails, keeping humans in control of what gets published.

We're extending both the Pages and Conversion features to support more complex headers and footers, additional styling options, and more precise tab handling. This closes the gap between Tiptap and Word so that imported DOCX files render faithfully in Tiptap, and exported documents preserve their original design.

Native suggestion mode for Tiptap documents. Humans and AI can leave inline suggestions with justifications, just like tracked changes in Word. Reviewers can accept, reject, and comment on proposed edits. The feature integrates with DOCX import and export, so your users can receive documents with redlines, review them in your app, and export them back out.

Track how AI agents have changed a document over time. The AI Toolkit integrates with Tiptap's version history so teams can review, compare, and roll back AI edits alongside human changes. This gives you full visibility into what AI did, when it did it, and the ability to restore previous states when needed.

One App ID and JWT for all Tiptap services. We're consolidating authentication so you can access Collaboration, Conversion, AI, and all other Tiptap services with a single credential. This is fully backward-compatible with existing integrations.

Simplified team management for Tiptap Cloud. We're building more robust role-based access controls, improved subscription and invoice handling, and a cleaner experience for inviting and managing team members.

Understand what's happening inside your editor. The Editor Analytics extension helps you monitor performance and catch issues in production by tracking editor load times, dropped content, extension crashes, and common anti-patterns like rapid re-initialization from React hook misuse.

AI agents that understand page structure. Future AI tools can respond to prompts with page context, enforce constraints like maximum page counts, and restructure content based on page boundaries. This is particularly relevant for contracts, reports, and any document with strict formatting requirements.
