AI is changing how people write with powerful tools for ideation, research, and editing. But one thing hasn’t changed: writers want their writing to be their own – to stay in the driver’s seat.
With Tiptap’s deep experience building developer tools for writing, we have the perspective to turn that potential into reality. Today, Tiptap Flex is an experiment: we’re exploring what an AI-native writing app can be for people who write: blogs, memos, posts, books, project plans, newsletters, and more. We’ve surveyed and interviewed dozens of writers to understand their workflows and needs. We’ve built a working prototype to test the resulting hypotheses. And we need your feedback!
Be warned: Flex is still a prototype. We think it’s stable enough to use daily but it’s bare-bones, a shadow of its future self, and buggy. If that doesn't scare you off, great! It's important to us to build Flex in the open, in partnership with our users even as they partner with our AI.

As you write, Flex is your copilot – suggesting new ways to think about the topic, improvements to your narrative, counterarguments, and more.

Even if you don’t prompt it, Flex is continuously helping with contextual actions based on your selection, automatic title generation, and more–all at your fingertips but not in the way.

The future of Flex
Flex is at the very beginning of its journey, and that journey has three goals:
- Platform: We want the Tiptap AI Toolkit to be the best, most efficient way to build AI-supercharged editing experiences. What better way to pursue that than to build a meaningful product on top of it, and be our own most challenging customer?
- Ecosystem: We’re all figuring out how to build AI into products – to transcend chatbots. With Flex we’re contributing to that investigation and conversation.
- Product: Is Flex merely a demo and testbed for AI Toolkit, or a product in its own right? We don’t know yet, and to some extent it depends on you. So…get involved today!
